This was another pick for the Book Detectives to investigate! This book was an excellent point of discussion and had us talking for many hours beyond these questions. Remember these questions are ones I made and are just a general starting point for discussion. I hope these are help to any groups. I do recommend having your group read this book as a whole and discussing it after.
1. What did you think of the author pointing out that authors hide things in prolongs, and then she proceeds to use one herself? Was she hiding something?
2. What are your first impressions of our narrator?
3. If you are listening to the audiobook, do you like that the author is the narrator?
4. The narrator talks a lot about her love life in explicit detail. Does this make you uncomfortable?
5. What do you think of her descriptions of this woman she loves but hasn't named yet?
6. What did you think of her relationship with Joel?
7. Did any sections stand out to you? This can be in either a good or bad way.
8. Carmen embarks on a very intense road trip/vacation with her girlfriend. Do you think they had too much planned?
9. Val is no longer in the relationship. What did you think of her sudden exit?
10. What did you think of the dangerous driving that her girlfriend did? Why does this tell us about her?
11. Carmen and her girlfriend are living together, and many strange and disturbing scenes are described. What did you think of them?
12. What did you think of the disintegration of their relationship?
13. Was their break up how you expected it to be?
14. Did any of her imagery stand out to you the most or speak to you the most?
