A Winter's Promise by Christelle Dabos

Readers who enjoy fantasy with a good amount of world building will enjoy this world that Dabo's creates. Ophelia has quite the challenge to survive in this new world. We get to watch as she navigates and grows.

My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Part of a series or Standalone: #1 in the Mirror Visitor series

Genres: Fantasy

Tropes: Arranged Marriage, Floating Islands, Survival of the Fittest, Family Grudges

Things I liked: The world building is really interesting! I love the imagery of the floating Arks, and it's fun to learn of all the different powers people can have.

I like Ophelia a lot! She's strong in the real way, but not in an overly obvious way, so people tend to underestimate her, which is rather unfortunate for them. She's very honest as well, which I really admire.

The translation is very interesting, I noticed the translator liked to use lots of words that you don't see very often but have very specific meanings. I just thought that was pretty neat.

Things I disliked: The story is very slow, I'm not really sure where we are going, but for the most part, I'm okay with that. By slow, I mean they still haven't gotten married by the end of this book.

Audiobook or Physical? I read the physical book because it has one of the prettiest covers I've ever seen.
