This was a really pleasant read, I enjoyed that its part of a greater universe but you don't have to read them all in order or all at once but you get introduced to an epic world!
My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Part of a Series or Standalone: Discworld #4 and Death #1
Genres: Fantasy
Tropes: Apprenticeship, Wizards, Dealing with Death, Branding is Important, Dulcinea Effect
Things I liked: I really like this writing style it was silly while still being serious. It was a good balance for the subject.
I'm glad Death is also fond of cats.
I'm curious about Discworld it seems so whimsical.
Things I disliked: I wanna know more about Ysebell! Hopefully theres more
Audiobook or Physical? Why is death's voice such a honey trap?! Why did they make him so hot?!
Sian Clifford does an excellent job of setting the tone of the story.
Peter Serafinowicz and Bill Nighy give everyone such good personalities as a team they all make an incredible story come to life. Excited for the rest of the series.
Good Quote(s): "History isn't like that. History unravels gently, like an old sweater. It has been patched and darned many times, reknitted to suit different people, shoved in a box under the sink of censorship to be cut up for the dusters of propaganda, yet it always - eventually - manages to spring back into its old familar shape. History has a habit of changing the people who think they are changing it. History always has a few tricks up its frayed sleeve. It's been around a long time."
"There should be a word for that brief period just after waking when the mind is full of warm pink nothing. You lie there entirely empty of thought, except for a growing suspicion that heading towards you, like a sockful of damp sand in a nocturnal alleyway, are all the recollections you'd really rather do without, and which amount to the fact that the only mitigating factor in your horrible future is the certainty that it will be quite short."
If animals are abused, die or are killed in this book: A bag of kittens is drowned you don't see it happen but death collects their souls.
An elephant is cut on the trunk by a priest.
Extras: Switches POV's but its mostly Mort's.
