The Miracles of the Namiya General Store by Keigo Higashino

An intricately woven tapestry of interterconnected stories that all center around the Namiya General Store.

My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Part of a series or Standalone: Standalone

Genres: Contemporary Fiction

Tropes: Everything is Connected, Slice of Life, Magical Realism, Family Drama, Coming of Age, Advice Column

Things I liked: Every story added an extra layer to the main story. I loved trying to figure out the way everything was connected.

I liked how the questions that were asked were complex ones with no clear answer, so both the advice giver and advice seeker had to truly have a dialog to really figure out the best way forward. Both parties were very serious, and I loved that everyone was so invested in these issues.

Things I disliked: The magical realism in contemporary fiction work, especially when nothing else magical is happening, can be jarring.

Audiobook or Physical? I did the physical book, and I tried a sample of the audiobook, and it just wasn't doing it for me. I'm glad I decided to go forward reading it this way.
