If you like fantasy, you will really love this read. It's such a pure and sweet story with adventure while not sucking you into another trilogy. The inspiration for this story came from the Princess Bride if Buttercup had been the one to embark on her own quest.
My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Part of a Series or Standalone: Standalone
Genres: Fantasy
Tropes: Pirates, Too Good to be True, Shared Universe, Impossible Task, Found Family, Magic and Magical creatures, Curses, Aliens, Unreliable Narrator
Things I liked: I love Tress! She's such an honest and sweet person. It's nice to see someone kind-hearted embark on a quest and not just get plowed over. We get to see that kindness is actually a strength.
All the characters, even the bad ones, are well written and interesting. Everyone has their motivations, making even the background characters really compelling.
The world building here is both simple and masterful. We get to discover the world that Tress lives in slowly as she's exposed to more of her own world, which makes it such a wonderful read.
Things I disliked: I would really love to find out where everyone ends up years after the story leaves off.
Audiobook or Physical? I listened to the audiobook. I thought the narrator, Micheal Krarmer, did an excellent job with this story. I have heard that the physical book has illustrations in it, so I will be getting my own copy to check those out in the future.
Extras: Disability Representation This book started out as a secret project/kickstarter
