Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver

If you want to read something that will make you appreciate whatever modern comforts and family that you do have this is a good one to pick up. Demon's life is full of all kinds of challenges that you just have to ride through with him. It was amazing to see how a young man can keep his hope alive when he has no evidence that things will ever get better.

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Part of a Series or Standalone: Standalong

Genres: Contemporary Fiction

Tropes: Modern Retelling, Country Mouse, Guess Who I'm Marrying?, Love at First Sight, Coming of Age, First Love, Loss of Innocence, Institutional Failings, Invisibility of Rural People, Addiction

Things I liked: This was such a nonstop intense read. The amount of challenges Demon faces at every second really make you appreciate your own life if you have any amount of stability.

This book goes into depth about addiction which is always a good subject to shine a light on. It was a really realistic look at those challenges.

Things I disliked: I wish the ending was a bit more clear, we can make a few assumptions but I would have loved to read concrete evidence.

Audiobook or Physical? I really liked the audiobook! Theres so many emotional moments and to hear them conveyed through a human voice was even more impactful. Charlie Thurston gives an excellent performance.

Extras: Pulitzer Prize-winner
