Armor of Light by Ken Follette

Any Follett or Historical fiction fan will enjoy this book. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of research that was done for this book. All of the women in this book were badass while making changes in the world.

My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Part of a series or Standalone: #4 in Kingsbridge series, but can be read as a standalone

Genre: Historical Fiction

Tropes: Showing the research, War, Slice of Life, Rights for Workers, Strong Females

Things I liked: All the characters were very real, they had issues everyone could relate to, and a few of the relationships were gay. There is a lesbian couple and a gay couple. Not only did they get to be together with little to no drama, but they ended happily as well. I loved this. Too often gay couples are killed off for plot or drama, and its very hurtful for anyone wanting to see their type of love represented.

There were references to people and places from other books in the series, which was very satisfying for continuing fans.

Things I disliked: How much power the rich had over the workers was appalling. It was hard to read at times as the workers tried to make things better and safer for themselves. The courts were totally rigged even more so than now a days.

The villans weren't as evil, though I do think they met fitting fates. Just the previous villans made you want to watch them in pain. I just didn't feel as strongly about these antagonists.

Audiobook or Physical? The audiobook was really good, John Lee does an amazing job. I'm always amazed at single narrators who can do the opposite sex voices so well.

Extras: Switches between POV's contantly.
